Mysterious Catman Cohen Returns After Four Year Absence

1:39 am

Listen Now to Streaming MP3′s:

I Had a Dream:
There Was a Boy:

My PR Music Wire (Press Release)~ Shadow musician Catman Cohen is ready to release his third CD…How I Want to Dream…as the conclusion to his musical trilogy, The Catman Chronicles, following a lengthy absence, in which internet rumors of suicide seemed to suggest his departure was of a permanent nature.

Grammy award winner and producer/arranger James Lum remarked, “When an artist’s first CD is entitled, ‘How I Want to Die,’ I suppose it’s only natural that some might imagine Catman Cohen made an early exit from the planet. But I can assure all his fans that the shadow lives and is in fine form.”

“We have taken an epic classical format, then melded it into edgy, provocative, and dreamy rock,” Lum further elaborated, “Catman Cohen pours his heart and soul into a wide variety of themes…a child’s deal with God revealed to be a pact with the Devil…sexual obsession, as expressed in high-testosterone French…a social protest song, doo-wop style…a triumphant Latin ode to the America of tomorrow…and the list goes on. Frankly, as somebody who has worked for many years with a variety of top label artists, I believe that we have produced an absorbing, passionate, multi-faceted CD that would make any one of them proud to claim it as their own.”

“How I Want to Dream” is slated for a late February ’09 release.

========

Catman Cohen is pleased to announce that a portion of proceeds received from all sales of “How I Want to Dream” will be donated to the charities created by his two good friends, medical activist, Patch Adams, and international nursing activist, Mary Lightfine.

=========

Who is Catman Cohen?

Mysterious and controversial Catman Cohen is the strange, silhouette artist with the raw bullfrog voice.

Some critics call him the “musical Loch Ness Musician.” Others refer to him as “the songwriting Sasquatch.” No pictures, no standard biography, and an adamant refusal to perform live, despite various invitations to do so.

Described as “Rock Opera,” his songs are based upon social action, notably a cry for the resurrection of neglected heroes (nurses, firemen, teachers, paramedics, universal peace-keepers, environmentalists, human rights activists, etc) and urgent warnings about the imminent fresh water crisis developing in the nation.

The Catman Chronicles feature a variety of guest vocalists, including Goths, she-males, and breathy, sexy sirens. Some music critics have denounced his “out of the box” approach…yet the Catman perseveres down his chosen path, knowing that there is no turning back from doing what must be done, knowing that we must……..

MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Metal as Fvk: The World’s Most Obliterating Metal Magazine. Coming your way in February 2009

6:15 am

My PR Music Wire (Press Release)~ Metal as Fvck is a new online metal magazine, due to be launched in early February 2009. Unlike nearly all other metal magazines and online metal communities, Metal as Fuck will be for more than just the punters.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Set to bodyslam its way into the global metal community in early February 2009 is Metal as Fvck: the world’s most obliterating metal magazine. Unlike all other metal ezines and online metal communities, and especially unlike others produced in Australia, Metal as Fvck will have a truly global, integrative focus, and will bring about the first ever on-the-ground interaction between bands, fans, and the industry.

Produced by prominent and gutsy Australian house, Brascoe Publishing, who are rapidly moving to the top seat in independent Australian publishing – and edited by one of the country’s prominent music industry educators, metal label rep and publicist Kelli Wright – Metal as Fuck will feature writers from all over the world. From correspondents in the USA and Europe, to local columnists – including metal supermodel Sam McSatan – and with some of Australia’s best metal journalists on board, the content for Metal as Fvck will be brutal, new, and relevant to metalheads all over the world. See the bios at the end of this release for more details about our team.

The zine will go live in early February, at http://www.metalasfuck.com.au and http://www.metalasfuck.net – chock-full of content, and featuring its first exclusive band diary. Up-and-coming band Our Last Enemy will be recording their debut release in Los Angeles with Christian Olde Wolbers of Fear Factory fame early in the new year, and Metal as Fvck has scored their exclusive recording diary. This will be the first of many exclusives to be set loose from the Metal as Fuck zine.

The zine’s uniqueness lies in the fact that major industry players – labels, distros, and promoters – have the opportunity to snare their own space on the site. From their own pages they will be able to post blogs (including images, news items, and commentary), which will cycle instantly through to the front page of the site. This is in addition to news, columns, feature reviews, gig reviews, forums, an online metal shop, and much more. Not just a promotional tool, the industry pages provide the industry with the means to interact with the metal community on a global scale, in the ways they want to. It gives them the ability to build their networks, to chat with punters and bands in the forums, to get in on gossip at ground-level, and to release their news early and know that their audience is 100% metal.
These tools give the industry the ability to use Metal as Fvck readers for market research, where they can get feedback directly from the people they need to influence – through specialist industry pages, through forums and through polls. This gives promoters, and others in the local industry, an edge they have never before been given. Don’t think for a second that the industry pages are available to anybody: they’re not. Only those who come on board as supporters of Metal as Fvck will be provided with this awesome service. If you’ve ever wanted to be able to reach the punters on the ground and survey them on a large scale to underpin your promotions, this is your chance.

Media Kits are available right now! To get in on the action from day one, contact the publishers of the zine to get your hands on a copy. You can email the publishing house at media@brascoebooks.com.au.

Metal as Fvck will be set to cover the brutal new year with a ferocity never seen before. And it’s set to just get bigger and bigger.

*****

About the Metal as Fvck team

Leticia & Foss @ Brascoe Publishing

With years of experience as professional communicators, Leticia & Foss established Brascoe towards the end of 2007, to produce unique, hard-hitting works.

Metalheads both, they have long lived by their passion for metal. Leticia is one of Australia’s leading metal journalists in cyberspace; in 2008 alone she interviewed a staggering 46 major bands, and reviewed innumerable releases and shows. Foss is a long-standing photojournalist, and has photographed international heavyweights such as Defiled (Jap), Dismember (Swe), Napalm Death (UK), and many more, plus countless local bands.

Kelli Wright, Editor

Kelli Wright is a name synonymous with the Australian Metal Music Industry. She has over 15 years of hands-on experience in a wide range of roles, including public relations, publicity and promotions, and endorsements, along with tour, label and artist representation (see http://www.myspace.com/kelliwrightpublicity for more info). She has been interviewed for mainstream television, newspaper and radio, as well as documentaries, and has run music business workshops and courses for over 20,000 students.

Having spent over a decade centred smack-bang in the midst of musical brutality, Kelli has worked with a long and impressive list of International and Australian acts that only a few could aspire to. With a sense of humour and a strong respect for those on the dark side, she has managed to carve herself a healthy position in the global metal community. Kelli is excited about adding Metal as Fvck to her list of passions, where – among other things – she will be releasing features on people and bands that she has worked with, and finds inspirational.

Sam McSatan, Columnist

Sam has a BA Music Industry, a Dip Music Business Management and over a decade of experience in the music industry: working in everything from venue booking, radio and street press, through to record label promotions and assistant tour management. Now a music publicist for Kelli Wright Publicity, Sam has worked with some of the biggest death, black, thrash and grind bands in the world and loved every minute of it, which undoubtedly proves her metal cred.

Under the name Samantha Doll she is considered Australia’s top pin-up model, with numerous magazine covers, centerfolds, features, interviews, and calendars internationally. She also models for quite a number of fashion labels. Rarely do her metal and modelling worlds collide, but when they do it’s stupid amounts of girly metal fun – such as her MetalHammer cover, appearances in Eternal and Berzerker film clips, and her column here on Metal As Fvck.

MixMatchMusic Acquires Mix2R

7:11 am

My PR Music Wire (Press Release)~ Music Tech Pioneers Combine to Create Premier Site for Collaboration

SAN FRANCISCO – January 13, 2009 – MixMatchMusic™ (www.mixmatchmusic.com) announced today its acquisition of Mix2r (www.mix2r.com). The combination creates one of the premier sites for internet-based music collaboration, discovery and fan engagement, and provides tools to help artists monetize their music.

MixMatchMusic, which launched this past September and already has a library of more than 2500 stems used by thousands of artists and fans, enables musicians to collaborate on, profit from and engage fans with their music. Mix2r, founded in 2005, enables electronica artists to upload completed songs and allows others to create derivative works from those songs. Mix2r’s community of thousands of musicians, DJs and fans features more than 6200 songs and music stems.

Stems of guitar, bass, drums, keys and other instruments are the building blocks of songs. Both sites encourage mash ups and remixes of stems to create new songs, ring tones and music.

“MixMatchMusic’s combination with Mix2r adds a lot of dynamic new music to our library and brings us closer to the critical mass of stems and community needed to fuel our next stage of growth,” said Charles Feinn, MixMatchMusic co-founder and CEO. “This combination also brings us Mix2r founders Duane Nickull and Matt MacKenzie, two exceptional serial entrepreneurs and technologists who join our Board of Directors.”
“Emerging and indie artists win as a result of this combination,” said Nickull. “The breadth and depth of content and the number of people contributing to it adds energy and creativity to the community, and that in turn will attract more people and more great music.”

Nickull, who is a well known senior technical evangelist for Adobe, said the Mix2r site uses Adobe® Flash® Platform technologies including Adobe Flash, Flex and Adobe® AIR™. These technologies, which are critical to Web-based online collaboration, will be used to create future versions of the combined site.

Nickull co-founded Mix2r with Matt Mackenzie, with whom he previously co-founded Yellow Dragon Software Corporation (acquired by Adobe in 2003), and XML Global Technologies (publicly traded, acquired by Xenos Group in 2003).

MixMatchMusic is built on four key building blocks:
• A dynamic music community. MixMatchArtists contribute parts of songs, called stems, such as guitar riffs, drum and vocal tracks; works in progress; or finished songs. Community members can search thru this catalog of sounds and songs to find stems to complement their own song ideas and works in progress. They can also communicate with other musicians to discuss song or album projects. Casual fans – even those who don’t play an instrument – can experiment with the sounds, discover new music and download stems or songs for use as ringtones or soundtracks for slide shows.
• The MixMaker audio sequencer. Members of the community use the sequencer to mix, match, mash up and manipulate their stems along with stems contributed by various artists. The sequencer combines and synchronizes stems and tracks; its edit tools are powerful and precise, but easy-to-use.
• The MixMatchMusic marketplace. The marketplace is an enlightened system of rights tuned to the unique requirements of digital music and the needs of digital musicians. The marketplace also includes highly transparent accounting processes and transaction logs that ensure musicians know the status of their work, are attributed and paid whenever it is downloaded or used in other art, or even by casual fans as ringtones. Musicians collect 85 cents on each dollar transacted.
• The Remix Wizard™ is a widget installed on artist sites or MySpace pages that provides fans direct access to a simplified, lightweight version of the sequencer. Artists load stems of their songs into the Remix Wizard and invite their fans to mix and match the various parts and create entirely new compositions from those parts. The Remix Wizard is a simple-to-install and easy-to-use widget that gives indie artists a cool viral tool for engaging fans, and allows them to emulate the hugely popular remix promotions mounted by bands such as Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails. The Remix Wizard is envisioned to become a key revenue generator for independent and established artists alike

Mix2r content joins with existing MixMatchMusic content to become one of the largest sources of stems, works in progress and other musical content available for collaboration among artists. The dynamic Mix2r forum will also become a part of MixMatchMusic as the sites and companies are combined in 2009. Mix2r Members will be immediately granted access to MixMatchMusic.com content under the MixMatchMusic license terms.

Participation in the MixMatchMusic community and use of its MixMaker audio sequencer are free to musicians and casual fans alike. Fees are incurred when stems, works in progress or finished songs are downloaded for sale or other use.

About MixMatchMusic
MixMatchMusic was founded to serve the needs of millions of independent and semi-professional musicians. Its services, technologies and community enable musicians to collaborate on, profit from and engage fans with their music.

MixMatchMusic is based in Silicon Valley and is angel-backed. Mix2r.com was completely funded by its founders and has taken no VC investments.
